Whats the carrier update for, it just came up on itunes. Is it safe to use if your using a 3g iphone.

Seems like the carrier update is sutable for 3g.  Like all things apple, you will always get notifiyed of updates specific to your device. 
The carrier update is for things such as APN, dialing codes etc etc etc
