so I did for my fathers 80th birthday..... think we can get the thing signed in ? No.

Ive signed him up for an AppleID, added all the info (security questions, address, payment method etc), installed itunes on laptop, but cannot sign into either ATV or itunes. Keep getting message to say Review your account.....  but everythings filled out.

Anyone know what Im missing ?

Correct. Signed into everything Apple related I can think of and its recognized. The ATV is even showing on the account. But everytime I try to log into the ATV it gives a message which requires me to log into iTunes - try that and just get message to Review My Account.  Im just trying a completely new login signed up via a different Apple site to see if makes any difference but I doubt it will..........

First thought - call AppleCare :)

After that, make sure to read everything that comes up when it asks you to review the information and possibly re-enter the CCV number. Also make sure that the email address has been verified when setting up the account :)

Ummm, I is it looking for money, sometimes I have found it wants some $ in the tank to start, although I am sure this is not really required. A 20 itunes card to start it might work

If a debit card is being used then there needs to be at least a dollar on the card, but it will reject the card if there is not and it should tell you it has rejected the card.

Well, it does have option for "none" regarding payment options, and on iphones/ipads it acceps that quite happily. I dont want to have to put their CC into it if I canhelp it, but yeah, its one of the last things I can do

I'm sorry this won't help but I had exactly the same problem when I bought mine a few years ago. It took me 4 hours to get the thing set up with the same problems you're having but I can't for the life of me remember what it ended up being. I even had tech support on the phone who didn't have the answer, all I can remember is I found it on the web whilst searching.

If I remember it in the next hour or so, I'll come back and post it.

What a helpful reply... The device is for the OP's 80-year-old father. Yep, what people of that age need is a relatively 'dumb' device that doesn't do anything unless it's directed to by another device like a phone, computer or tablet.

My elderly father had an Apple TV and loved it and, most importantly, fond it easy enough to use. I'd never have considered a Chromecast as an alternative for him.

Good luck getting it working!

Right, spent hour on phone to APple, created new accounts, changed credit cards, used different devices, and still same error - so Id say somehting on Apples new signup system has failed and theyre not aware of it as such. Theyre raising my case to the engineers to investigate, but in meantime Im going to try an itunes account my wife uses for beta testing her company app and see if that works..... if that does, at least I can get the ATV running for now.
