The old man has a 6s that is due for a battery replacement, it will turn off with around 20% charge left. He took it in to local apple service provider and they sent it off to get the battery replaced. He got it back a few days later and was told there was water damage and they would not replace the battery etc etc unless he paid ~$600 for a complete fix (referb?), and charged him a $50 fee for doing so.

He went to spark, who he originally bought the phone off and asked if they would replace the battery. Unfortunately for him the sales guy had zero interest in helping so he left.

So we're looking for any recommendations for 3rd party to replace the battery, or somewhere I can buy a battery and do it myself for him. He is in Nelson but regularly is in Auckland.

You ca use ifixit and do it yourself with good aprts but otherwise it is hit and miss with the quality of workmanship and batteries...
Personally I have never found a good third party repairer and just replace phones when this happens.

Yea why would you want to keep a liquid damaged phone going?

It could be the damage that making the phone turn off and not a battery issue.

Make a claim on the contents insurance and get a new one?

I've had a phone myself that never once was dropped in water or wet but had 2 of the stickers turn red for what ever reason. Was text book liquid damaged but was still fine...

I've had a phone myself that never once was dropped in water or wet but had 2 of the stickers turn red for what ever reason. Was text book liquid damaged but was still fine...

He reckons the only way it got wet was when a drink bottle in backpack leaked, that was over a year ago and there are no other issues. Otherwise phone works fine.

A few years back I got a replacement batt for my iP5 but that turned out to be a dud after a few months.

I've got an iphone that is about 4 months old. Already the battery is showing 94% battery health, which doesn't seem right to me, as I only charge it every day. Apparently when it gets to 80%, it will start having the problem where it could shut down when under stress, or will have the performance limited, depending on my choice in the software. Apparently it would then need a repair doing to get the battery pack inside replaced, but that is $150ish when it occurs.So not looking forward to that.

Something seems off about this. 4 months = ~120 days. The theory is meant to be that the phone should be able to do about 500 cycles before it is at 80% of max capacity. A cycle is the equivalent of draining from 100 to 0 so if you charge to full then drain to 50%, charge back to full and then drain to 50% again you have used one cycle as you have drained 100%. A drop to 94% of max is a 30% drop which is meant to equal about 150 cycles. This would mean that on average you are doing 1.25 cycles per day (ish). Either you are using the phone an awful lot or something is draining the battery meaning you have to charge it a lot or the battery has an issue.

Oh, and battery replacement is $49 if you have anything from a 6 or SE to a X, though this price is only till the end of the year. Authorised service providers may charge extra on top of that.
