Has anyone noticed this lately? Both my wife and I have been experiencing this to varying degrees. Basically the screen of her XR and my XS Max stop responding to touch input. I have to put it to sleep and wake it to from the button to get it back, and sometimes it doesn't help into the third or fourth try. This is super frustrating, as it isn't a once a day issue, it's a once every time I unlock my iPhone issue. It happened as I wrote that last sentence! Argh!

I'd have suspected a bung display if it wasn't also happening to her XR. I had my display replaced a couple months ago and could have imagined this to be an issue with that repair, but seems not....I have a screen protector, she doesn't.

Anyone in the same boat?

Nope both completely independent of each other. I'll restore mine at work tomorrow and see what's what

iCloud restore in flight.  If it doesn't help I'll do a full wipe and setup from scratch.  Failing that i'm thinking iOS issue or hardware.

does the screen turn on?

I've had my X do that several times, where the screen won't turn on, so the touch doesn't work, so I can't answer a call

Restore didn't help :(

@Nathan the screen turns on fine. It's just when I'm using the phone the screen will stop responding so I have to sleep wake it to get it to work again. Sometimes many times in a row. Twice during this post!

Could it be the screen protector? Or I don't suppose you've somehow changed the touch pressure settings (accessibility)?

Nope, tried with and without the protector.  Also tried disabling 3d touch.  Apple told me to take it for a physical assessment.  I'm thinking my wife's XR issue is different as she hasn't had it happen nearly as much as me.

It's completely rooted now, I can't even unlock it.  Must be a hardware fault.  I note the camera icon on the lock screen is also greyed out while it exhibits this behavior.  Bloody typical, I fly out of town tomorrow and I'll have to buy a burner for while I'm away.  ARGH.

Did you end up doing a factory restore in iTunes or just the data wipe from iCloud? if you didn't nuke the iOS software then could still be an issue with that.

I did both, which is kinda a bummer because I'm taking it for a service first thing tomorrow, and if I ask really nice/bribe with coffee and donuts I might be able to get the screen replaced in the morning (they confirmed they have stock - just depends if the screen is the issue) before I have to head to the airport at 11amish.  But now if they do fix it, I'll have a new iPhone with no config and no ability to get that sorted until I get to my brother's in Auckland later in the afternoon.  At least had I only done the iCloud one (which I did before it died completely) I'd still have a usable phone in the morning.

This is so first world, but holy cow you don't realise how much you rely on the thing until it's busted.

The folks at Service Plus were excellent this morning.  Dropped the iPhone in at 8:30.  Picked it up at 10am, new display and perfectly working phone.  Straight to the airport from there and much less stress in my life :)
