Still almost impossible!

IOS will never be a serious OS until you can do simply things easily!

Setting device to manually manage and drag from windows folder into device does not work. And, doing so deletes everything else that was on the ipad because it was previously synced to another device.

So, you have to add the video into the itunes library, then set to sync the playlist which the video is added to.... but then, the ipad starts 'backup', which is taking forever... can't move files to ipad until it has backed up gigabytes of data to my tiny laptop ssd.

Apple are  joke, rant over. . . .

Yeah, not the easiest thing to do.

I've used something like Air Transfer or FE File Explorer (can't remember which I settled on as being the best) to transfer it over WiFi from the laptop web browser. (Or Readdle 'Documents')

I find the easiest way is to share a directory on the laptop and use an IOS program like Filebrowser to pull it across the network...

Using a Cloud service like Google drive works too....

Edit: app name

VLC for iOS is a good solution.
Open app, browse to address on your computer, drag files onto device.
Easy.

Instructions are here

Cheers

Many apps support this type of connection. I have not plugged an iOS device into a computer for years.

Yep, via wifi the easiest. In iTunes it has to be the right format,

Yes it is messy with that. I got an app Goodreader, you can transfer files easy, make categories easy, and all those videos, etc are in Goodreader app.
