I've looked around here and am suprised that one of these threads don't exist.
Anyway, I aim to have this topic contain as many frequently asked questions regarding the iPhone and iPod Touch as possible to help users with problems or questions answered fast.
I'll do my best to filter through the forums, finding as many questions as possible with as many answeres as possible.
PM me with any that are not here that you feel should be.
So here we go,
Q: Will the iPhone 3G work on vodafone prepay?
A: Yes. However, to enable data access over prepay you must visit http://www.unlockit.co.nz with your iPhone.
UPDATE: Vodafone now lets you change the APN manually on the phone. Go to settings>general>network>cellular data network> set the apn field to www.vodafone.net.nz. Or back to www.iphone-vodafone.net.nz to avoid any further charges. If you just put in a fake addrress (eg www.vodafohnne.neet.nz), it still appears to work as if it were set to www.vodafone.net.nz. Wierd huh?
Q: But a nice person at a Vodafone store told me I couldn't use the $1 data plan. Or even use prepay for that matter.
A: Ignore him/her. They just want more of your money. Trust me, everything works fine on prepay.
Q: Is the iPhone 3G sold by Vodafone New Zealand locked?
A: No, it is not.
Q: Can you share iPhones 3G data connection with a computer?
A: Yes. However, you will need netshare running on the iPhone, which has been pulled from the app store. So without that, no you can't.
Q: Will I be able to use the iPhone on a peer-to-peer adhoc network?
A: Yes.
Q: I hear the iPhone's screen is scratch resistant, so this means it wont scratch easily?
A: It protects against many scratches but it is almost impossible to avoid any scratches without a screen protector.
Q: How do I reset the iPhone in case of a software crash?
A: Hold down the home and standby button for about 8 seconds.
Q: Are you an apple fanboy?
A: No, I believe the iPhone is the only usable product to come out of apple. ;-)
Q: Does browsing the net over my home wifi cost anything?
A: Nope. Why are you asking this?
Q: Is a prepay iPhone any good for maps only usage?
A: It depends on how much you will use the feature. On prepay you can only use up to 10MB before Vodafone takes all your money away. As long as you use the map only view and not the satelite picture view, it should last you a few hours. But still, A gps device is cheaper than the iPhone, and you don't have to pay anything after the initial purchase price. Why not get that and an iPod touch?
(thanks to DrU for the following)
Q: Can you get $1 a day on the days you use it internet on iphone on prepay
A: Yes you can even if half the stores told you you couldnt (ie those stores who said you also couldnt get it on prepay haha)

Q: Are there any specific features which are available only on the VFNZ iPhone plan?
A: VFNZ have answered "No" to this when queried directly.
Q: Are there any specific limitations which apply only on the VFNZ iPhone plan?
A:
- VFNZ have answered "No" to this when queried directly.
- The APN used for iPhone plans MAY prevent use of MMS through the third-party application Swirly MMS; see answer below.
- Any updates / changes / corrections, please PM me so I can update this answer.
Q: Does the iPhone support MMS in NZ, and if so how is it possible?
A: Swirly MMS provides this facility (requires a jailbroken iPhone). There have been reports that users on iPhone plans are no longer able to use Swirly MMS, but users who are NOT on iPhone plans report that Swirly MMS continues to work for them. See related Geekzone thread.
**VFNZ say the as the iPhone doesn't support MMS, they don't support MMS either. (The Apple line on this seems to be that sending HTML emails is way cooler than sending MMS anyway. Commentary on this by freitasm.)
Q: Does the iPhone support iPhone voicemail in NZ, and does this require the iPhone plan?
A: Not yet! Martin308 reports VFNZ have told him they are "working on it" (EDIT: I can confirm this response - "As soon as we can make it work"), but there's no date set for when this service will be made available.
Q: Does the iPhone support tethering, allowing you to access the internet on another device by sharing the iPhone's connection?
A: Yes, but only if you are running OS 3.0. You cannot tether your phone on any earlier OS.

iPhone 3G S specific questions:
Q: When will the 3G S be available in NZ?
A: Sometime in July (possibly the 9th, but don't hold me to this).
Q: Will the phone sold here be locked to a specific carrier?
A: No, you can use any carrier.

Q: Does the iPhone support tethering, allowing you to access the internet on another device by sharing the iPhone's connection?
A: Not out of the box. There was an application called NetShare, but it was removed from the AppStore. So you'll need a jailbroken iPhone and these instructions.
