In testing the Webapp.Net framework (http://webapp.net.free.fr/) for the iPhone, I'd appreciate some feedback on the TrafficCam app I've thrown together at http://ithermit.com/cam.

- Support for all Traffic cams, Auckland , Wellington, Christchurch and (at a stretch) Dunedin. I particulary like the Dowse to Petone project roadworks in Wellington. Thanks Transit !
- Async loading of images - only load images as you view them
- Supports Portrait and Landscape mode
- Thanks to Safari, keep your finger on the image and you get the option to save it to the camera roll

PLEASE - don't use whilst driving !

Yes it looks very cool.
The resolution would be fine on an Iphone Im sure.
Would have its uses for the city dweller/.
Well done

Yes very nice work - I shall use this a lot! Only comment I would make is that is it possible to zoom, or at least print in larger digits the time and date in the pics as my eyes struggle to read that part of the image? (Or of course I could just tip my iphone sideways...!)

I can't do anything with the date/time text in the images - that's embedded by the image provider.
I will look into the zooming though - it was something I thought of.

Thanks,

OK, zooming was specifically turned off by the framework I was using. I've reenabled it, so should now work. I've specified the maximum zoom quite low, but can change this easily if someone wants more !

As usual, a doubletap will revert to normal scale.

Cheers

Nice work!! I WILL so be using this? I'm a noob so excuse this, but how much data would it use to access and bring up a photo?

Again this rocks! Laughing

The initial page, misc small images, along with the code and css seems to be around 50k. Safari on the iPhone does a good job of caching, so these should only be loaded once per session.

Each camera image displayed takes around 350-400 bytes of HTML, the actual image itself varies between 15k-40k.

So not too bad. I may look at async loading the individual city pages if these get too big.

looks very nice and seems to work well, but for Auckland I just use a bookmarked icon linking to this page http://traffic.transit.govt.nz/ on my phone which also gives me motorway overview and an option to read the overhead sign messages eg: Lanes blocked, accident etc.  If you can incorperate all of this that would be awesome as I find the map very handy as a quick reference.

I would probably use when in other cities though as I think the above link only does Auckland and I do a bit of traveling. Will look out for it on iTunes.

Hi,

Is there any news on this becoming a downloadable App? I know bookmarking is easy but I think this in App form would be great! Especially if you could incorperate the overhead signs, and congestion map from transit.

Cheers,

Scott.

Awesome work!

I do the commute from North Shore to Auckland CBD everyday, so it DOES come in handy.

Quite nice...it doesn't seem to auto refresh the image though?

No plans on making this a full app - it was just a test for the web framework i was using. Perhaps someone else might be motivated ?

I'll look into the refreshing - might be a problem with the ajax framework though.

This is a really useful app.  Well done.

Of course it would have been really useful if I had it last Friday when the Auckland Northern motorway was jammed up and I spent 2 hours in the back streets of Northcote wondering what the hell was going on.
