Yesterday, some friends reported the same problem with the iPhone X that if you don't touch the phone's frame (such as wearing the case), the screen does not respond.
If you can reproduce the problem, shoot the video first, and then remember to repair ,especially after the update of the system ,do not think it is your own problem, this is a NZD1400 mobile phone.

This problem has been quite widely reported. Guessing it is software related, and isn't the 'handgrip of death' design type of problem. Apparently the new models also don't have a plastics edge between the glass and metal edge, so I wonder if that could be causing an issue. But this is a very old retro design, going back to the iphone 4,so you would think they would have it sorted.

This problem has been fixed today.  Apple released IOS 14.2.1 just for the iPhone 12's.  One fix is the stopping of not getting some MMS messages and for the iPhone 12 Mini it fixes the screen problem.

As I said it is only for iPhone 12's.
