Hi all,

I've purchased an iPhone 13 pro from someone through Facebook marketplace, he received it as an unwanted gift from a friend. After making the trade and inquiring further about the sourcing the receipt I find out his friend brought it from someone too.

Apparently the phone was purchased in AUS (I'm based in NZ), and when I got the phone, the box was fully sealed.

My main concern is that original person got it upfront and on a plan, and is going to ignore the bills, so eventually 2-3 months down the line it will be IMEI blacklisted, and then not work on my NZ mobile network.

I believe AUS/NZ share the same network, or am I mistaken?

Is there a way to see if any carrier has this phone registered?

The guy is refusing a refund (even though I told him i'd take a $200 loss)......

At the moment, i'm thinking of selling it on eBay to someone overseas, as I don't think i'd get really anything for it all here locally (I'd fully disclose the situation to buyers).

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks :)

You can check this website to see if it's blacklisted or not.

No use if it blacklisted in say 4 weeks time

Other problem is if it is blacklisted then you've effectively got stolen goods. Get the Police involved if it is on a blacklist.

Also, don't purchase new phones off Facebook...

^ This. No one is "gifting" a $1500 phone to someone who "doesn't want it"

You can check Australian IMEIs here , but as mentioned above if its on a plan, it wont be blacklisted until the original purchaser stops paying
