There are currently four things keeping me from an iPhone:

1. No copy/paste.
2. No tethering.
3. Not on Telecom.
4. Limited to 16 GB.

Hopefully OS 3 will solve #1 and #2. #3 will solve itself in June, and with any luck a new 32 GB model will be released to coincide with the new OS.

NBR's top five picks for the new version:

True background application would be very useful indeed.

I'd love to read that article but I can't copy and paste the link on my Touch.

James Bond: Is the firmware upgrade free?

OS 2 was free for iPhone users, and for some reason was $13ish for iPod Touch users. I assume that 3 will be similar.

Additional bluetooth profiles, particularly for A2DP/AVRCP would be useful. File transfer would be handy, but that would reduce necessity for iPhoto/iTunes so I don't see it happening.

Being able to select things from within an email/web-page/SMS and add them to contacts (phone number, name etc) would be extremely useful (my old SE can do it and saves a lot of mucking around).

I'm extremely underwhelmed by the functionality of the current firmware, virtually every app does it's one "thing" and isn't very flexible whereas most "dumb" phones seem to be a lot more versatile, albeit with inferior UI and web-browser/video player.

Oh yeah, tethering, MMS and cut/paste should be no-brainers. I'm picking 1 of the 3 will make it in.

If the new firmware could knock a couple of hundred $ off the price, that'd be tops too ;)

Yeah totally agree. Tap-and-hold menus in various applications would be hugely useful.

Also allowing any application to be viewed in either landscape or portrait mode. Not being able to tip my iPhone on the side and read my email that way can sometimes be frustrating!

If your not averse to jailbreaking, then clippy works pretty well for copy/paste

Forgive my ignorance but did they charge for the previous OS upgrade?

If so, I'm guessing it'll happen again. Worth it for the tethering though if it eventuates!!

I have that logged in Radar (Apple's bug tracking database) and they're aware of the problems. It's related to the NZ timezone.

Thats the whole day events appearing the day before bug?

I think thats been registered for a while so im not holding my breath :(

There are a few others though, such as snoozing reminders, tasks.

It also seems to have problems sometimes with recurring appointments being deleted or moved so that they never show up in the phone if moved or arent deleted on the phone

Anyone got any more?
