For some reason sending messages to a contact of mine USED to send iMessages (blue) but about a week ago it now sends regular texts (green).    I have zero idea what has happened nor how to fix it.

Oddly at about the same time their messages to me all had a silent/mute icon (a bell with a line through it) listed on them, again no idea why.

How can i restore it back to iMessage?

Check that they are logged into icloud, and have data available,

(I strike this with my kids when their pre=pays run out of data/credit- (without data all the i-features cant connect and SMS is the way messages go)...

My elderly mum is often not available on iMessage and reverts to text when she's out and about - as she has no data on her plan, she's only blue when she's on wifi and she's only ever on wifi at her own home, as she has no idea how to change it.

She's at the other end of the country, so I am unable to assist her regularly.

I have found that it's often those that have no available data or a plan that doesn't offer much data that revert to text most often.
