Hello Team

Currently using the famous logitech keyboard and mouse MK950 for my imac.

this is the 2nd time that i totally shut down the computer, come back home in couple of days, the computer will not recognize my keyboard and mouse.

then I have to use back my apple keyboard and mouse to type in the password and start up computer?

is something wrong with my settings?

Check this one…

Check Settings for Wake-Up: In Bluetooth settings > Advanced, ensure "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer" and the "Open Bluetooth Setup Assistant" options are checked.

otherwise google “iMac Bluetooth on startup not working” or similar search of that and see the other procedures..

Hello Goosey

I have checked all settings as per mentioned.

the interesting thing is if i turn back on my orginal apple keyboard, it will immediately connected straight away.

is there some settings that it is not right?

IIRC its some security feature on a Mac that 3rd party Bluetooth devices wont work until login after a full reboot.

so is that mean going forward, i can't put into shut down mode, i have to use standby instead?

Are you using the MK950 connected via Bluetooth (Low Energy), or with the supplied USB Bolt dongle?  I think in my past experiences, although the LE BT connection is handy with not having to plug in and use a USB slot, actually using the USB dongle (Bolt) provides a more stable connected, especially with start up procedures on Macs.

This can be a hassle depending on how old your iMac is as I think the newer ones are USB Type C or Thunderbolt only, so no native USB-A etc, and as far as I can remember, Bolts that came with the 950 series were USB-A.  But if you have an adapter or a dock already, I would use the supplied bolt/dongle to ensure a connection from start up, and prevent any delays with BT pairing, or the possibility of security requirements for third party connections etc.

That would be my guess going from previous Mac to Logitech/3rd-Party mice and keyboards.

Good luck and Merry Christmas!

Yann

This is arguably better for the device anyway. There's not much benefit in powering off completely unless you have a specific reason it has to be off.

Is FileVault disk encryption enabled on the Mac?  If yes, Bluetooth drivers for connected devices don't load until after the user is logged in and the disk is unlocked.  As mentioned above, use the Bolt USB receiver to mitigate this.

Hello @gehenna

The firevault is currently enable on my mac, (set by default). I have tried to use the USB receiver and plug into the imac today, errrr, it doesn't want to connect either during the password screen.

do you think i should disable the filevault?

Is it a bluetooth receiver, or as mentioned a logitech bolt receiver? A bluetooth receiver will not work, by design.

That is entirely up to you.  Disabling it means you lose encryption on your device's storage.  This might be fine, you might not have a reason for it to be encrypted.  It also might not be fine.  Only you can know the answer to that, though if you are unaware of what FileVault is in the first place, it stands to reason you don't need it, but it's not for anyone other than you to say.

Disabling it may also take several hours to complete, as it needs to decrypt the entire disk first. Your best approach is probably to confirm whether you're using the right receiver or not, and then work up to decrypting the disk if you have no alternatives.

And reiterating what lxsw20 said - are you sure you're using the Bolt receiver, and not just a standard unifying receiver or 3rd party Bluetooth receiver?  The Bolt receiver has a bright green lightning bolt on it, whereas the unifying receiver's have an orange asterisk.
