Find my iphone has been released on mobile me for OS 3.0 users.

So far it's quite accurate. You can send messages to the phone and play a sound even when on vibrate mode.

If the worst comes to the worst you can trigger a remote wipe.

If you switch it off (complete power off) - does it show the last known location?

And if you want cheap MobileMe check out DSE's website. I can get one years sub at about $91 with VIP pricing and there are only a few left in Dunners

I think the following screen shot answers the question:

Map reflects device's approximate location as of <TIME> on <DATE>

Works ok on my 2G. Not too accurate but only 1km or so off. Close enough that I'll easily know if I left it at work or a mates place.

How fortuitous, on the morning of installing 3.0 my wife heads off for a workshop and takes my iPhone as well as hers (both look the same).
Called my number and, as expected, no answer. We were both familiar with Aus law and it being illegal to use handheld mobiles while driving (unlike half the hazardous local mobile-toting one-hand drivers in Chch).
Checked online with MobileMe and sure enough... it is AWOL.
Able to ping a message. She pulled over and I was able to meet and collect.

This is all nice until some idiot stealing iPhones complains to a judge that his privacy is being taken away by the owner who keeps trying to locate him using a GPS tracking device...

LOL
reminds me of tale of the thief who broke into a home and then had an accident severely hurting himself, sued the family for negligence.   possibly urban myth

Can anyone suggest an alternative browser on the iPhone for accessing a MobileMe account to view Find My iPhone. (or alternative method)
eg If I lose my iPhone, and I want to use my wife's iPhone to lookup my account on www.me.com, mobile Safari does not display a login page.

There are a number of browsers but number of them look to be stealth etc to hide ones browsing activity.
