Next month im going to the US for a bit of a o.e. and im taking my 3g iphone and i want to use data on it, but not use my vodafone sim and get charged crazy amounts for roaming data. I have been researching round the internet.

Best solution i have come up with:

  • Buying a at&t gophone sim card

  • ringing customer service and request a data plan

  • Then go to unlockit.co.nz on a wifi connection and installing the custom at&t apn.

I have also found that you can do a similar proces with t-mobile, but i am picking you would mainly get a edge data connection? has any one had any experence with this? how was it?

More questions:

  1. Am I able to do the first senario with at&t and has somone sucessfully tryed this recently? As i have heard of at&t blocking the data even with the reconfigured apn from unlockit.co.nz.

  2. Can i install multiple apns before i leave to cover my bets? eg keep the current vodafone apn and add in at&t and tmobile. Just incase i have trouble finding a wifi connection to access unlockit.co.nz.

I have also researched mrsimcard.com but this seem to be a very expensive way to buy a sim car, but there would be less risk involed.

Any advice or experiences would be much appreciated

Cheers!

Why do you need unlockit.co.nz when the APN can be changed on the iphone very easily

Seems like less hassel being able to just pick pre-cofigured settings. But i will find out and write down the apn settings for the carriers incase i neeed to change them manualy.
