I'm sure it's not designed to be dropped BUT "it must be durable" (if sold in NZ anyway)

I guess it depends on what you define as "durable"

Either way, I'm sure Apple won't have a problem with sales!

But apparently a very strong glass.

The iPhones were never tough enough to drop. I can't tell you the number of broken LCDs and glass panels that have come my way. I think that's just the price to pay for a large display. Saying that, I thought the iPhone 4 glass was meant to be gorilla glass. Guess it's no tougher than the regular glass.

It's all very well to make the glass really strong, but that won't protect the internals from damage.

Dropping your phone is considered an accident, and has nothing to do with durability. An accident is covered by insurance. I am sure a netbook would be in worse condition with just a single drop/

Not sure I would call that a miserable failure, might improve once they fit the "reception buffers to the phone"

This is a bit worse, one drop as opposed to three, hopefully they'll fix it up in the next gen release. Apparently making it more scratch resistant has made is less durable to side on knocks :S so as long as you drop it flat and not on a corner it should be fine

Yeah, got to agree, kills a perfectly good iPhone4 to promote his business, and we haven't even got them here yet!  (I am not an iPhone fan either)

Good ad for some sort of protective cover for your shiny new toy though.

Most of these type of products would pass standardised drop testing.  I remember seeing a program on Discovery about Nokia doing just that.

Nonsense

I've dropped my Samsung Omnia HD more than that on concrete, hard wood, lino, etc, left it on the back of car and driven off and its fallen on the road and there's nothing wrong witb it, a couple of tiny scratches. Ive had older nokias and things that have fallen more than one storey on to driveways and been OK

Most phones would last longer than that.

Ok so maybe its not "miserable" but thats a poor showing IMO

It's called waste. I am sure apple aren't happy to see people doing that sort of thing to their devices either. I would have thought they would ahve to remove the apple logos at least.
