Will buying and iphone with apple care off ebay mean i will be covered with warranties worldwide? I only just found out there offereing apple care with iphones today. According to the terms if your in new zealand you post it out to australia (which i have done with iphones previously when vodafone were being uselss)

No, the iPhone warranty is only valid in the country of purchase.

Not sure about the 3 year warranty but the limited warranty actually states:

"Apple may repair or exchange defective products and parts with comparable products and parts that comply with local standards. Service options are subject to change at any time. You may be responsible for shipping and handling charges if the product cannot be serviced in the country in which service is requested. If you seek service in a country that is not the country of original purchase, you will comply with all applicable import and export laws and regulations and be responsible for all custom duties, V.A.T. and other associated taxes and charges. available, Apple may repair or exchange defective products and parts with comparable products and parts that comply with local standards."

Which suggests that you would be covered right? But also in the warranty it states:

"Apple may restrict service to the country where Apple or its Authorized Distributors originally sold the hardware product"

It's a risk you take by purchasing one overseas. Apple have covered themselves well by the look of things.

yeah, found it on the apple forum, alot of mixed opinions. more saying there is no international warranty only support. Ill give apples 00800 a call tommorrow and ask them directly.

AppleCare for iPhone only valid for where the device is purchased from. So iPhone bought in NZ, will have AppleCare valid for NZ. You may get international support but for fixing, you'll only be able to have it serviced at the country of purchase.

From memory Applecare globally covers portable devices, ipod, macbook etc (excl iphone),
Desktops (excl mini) are only covered in country of purchase.

But I can't find an apple reference to back this up at the mo.

You can contact Apple for information on how to obtain service. Service will be limited to the options available in the country where service is requested. I read that as you are covered internationally if you purchase apple care

Just a note, Apple care is 2years from original purchase date not 2 years extra ontop of 12month limited warrenty

Indeed, just to clarify.

AppleCare for iPhones is one additional year, 2 year in total.
AppleCare for iPods (all models) is one additional year, 2 year in total.

AppleCare for Portables and Desktops is TWO additional years, 3 years in total.

In short, it makes buying an iPhone from overseas less attractive if you think about warranty coverage. However Parallel Import [ http://www.parallelimported.co.nz/ ] has 3 years extended warranty available.

Here we go...

AppleCare Protection Plan for iPhone page lists the following:

AppleCare Protection Plan for iPhone United States (PDF):

"The price of the Plan is listed on the Plan’s original sales receipt. Apple may restrict service provided under this Plan to the Covered Equipment’s original country of purchase."

AppleCare Protection Plan for iPhone Asia Paficic (PDF):

"d) New Zealand: Parties to Contract – Apple Pty Limited at PO Box A2629, Sydney South, NSW 1235. (“Apple”). Cancellation (Section 5) – Cancel by sending written notice to AppleCare Administration, Apple Pty Limited at PO Box A2629, Sydney South, NSW 1235. If you cancel more than 30 days after your receipt of this Plan, you will received a pro-rata refund of the Plan’s original purchase price, less (i) a cancellation fee of $50 (New Zealand Dollars) or 10 percent of the pro-rata amount, whichever is less and (ii) the value of any service provided to you under the Plan. Transfer (Section 6) – Transfer by sending written notice to AppleCare Administration, Apple Pty Limited at PO Box A2629, Sydney South, NSW 1235. General Terms (Section 7) – This plan is offered and valid only in New Zealand. The laws of New South Wales govern this plan."

Note the incorrect mention of "laws of New South Wales" when it should be "laws of New Zealand".
