So lately iv had this weird issue. When im using the phone app, making a call, the keypad seems buggy. It always dials the phone number correctly. The problem occurs when trying deal with a phone automation service. For example entering a credit card number or navigating through robo voice menus.

This is how it goes when i call my voicemail:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Automated voice: "please enter your pin"

Me: 1234 (iphone screen displays 1234 as entered)
Automated voice: "1244 is an incorrect pin"

Me: 1 2 3 4 (iphone screen displays 1234 as entered)
Automated voice: "1834 is an incorrect pin"

Me: 1   2   3   4 (iphone screen displays 1234 as entered)
Automated voice: "7242 is an incorrect pin"

Me: 1   2   3   4  !!!!!!!! (iphone screen displays 1234 as entered)
Automated voice: "6714 is an incorrect pin"

Me: 1   2   3   4  !!!!!!!!!!!(iphone screen displays 1234 as entered)
Automated voice: "you have one new message"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

At first i thought that this was just a problem with the automated phone service, but this is not the case. I have experienced this with a number of different companies (studylink is the latest one). However, i do not have any problem calling telecoms 0800 32 32 32 and topping up. The issue only seems to happen with certain numbers.

As you can imagine this drives me nuts because it makes automated systems almost unusable & often there's no way to bypass them. I havent been able to find anyone else complaining of the same issue, and im unsure of what could be causing this. The phone is obviously recognising my button presses correcty

I never used to have any issues, and i think this problem started when i upgraded to iOS4. However the phone is obviously picking up the correct button presses.. Im not sure where the problem occuring. Has anyone else experienced this? Im using a 3GS by the way.

It's not just the phone...

try typing quickly on the qwert keyboard in landscape mode.

spaces are either spaces or come out as random letters.

there's something really wrong with the screen calibration in iOS4.

I think this is a different issue. The iphone is correctly recording my button presses, it displays exactly what i type. But the automated system gets different numbers somehow.

This is a safety feature implemented by Apple to stop people using 1234 as their pin for phone services.

Just press a random set of keys and you'll be fine ;)
