Hi there,

Ever since I downloaded iOS 4.0 (and then 4.1) to my 3G iPhone I have had the following problems:

- Significant lag with typing in messages and emails
- iPod skips alot, especially when using other functions while listening to music
- Some apps quit unexpectantly, while other wont open at all
- General performance all round seems to have slowed down.

Is this a known fault, and is there anyway I can go back to the previous iOS before 4.0??? I have only had the phone just over a year, and dont want to fork out for a new one (which if I have to because of this, wont be an iPhone!!)

Cheers!

This is a fault. The iPhone 3G Specs are pretty bad really, 128mb of ram won't cut things.
Take a look at this Google Search and you will see what I mean. You could try following This to make things a bit more bearable or follow This to downgrade to 3.1.3.

I would recommend downgrading + jailbreaking, just head over to http://www.jailbreakme.com on your device, this way you can get all the features of iOS4 + Multitasking and still have a usable phone at the end of the day.

If you have 4.1 then you must have a developer account so report the fault on the apple developer forum and.of the bug report section and use your non developer day to day iPhone on 4.0.1.

4.0.1 is quite alot better than 4.0 (even on the 3GS)

Thanks

So i had installed 4.1 beta 3, on my 3g ( yes i have dev account) and i went back to installing 4.0.1 and yes, gees the difference it will make when then release 4.1 officially to that sluggishness.

I can now see the improvements, although to be honest i agree with the above and would go back to 3.3 if i needed to.

simple logic.

I've read a number of forums.. if your 3G is going slow under 4.0.X.. go into Settings, General, Spotlight Search and turn off all the options..

But what's the point? It will be still way more sluggish than iOS 3.1.3 + it doesn't even add that much to the iPhone 3G. Downgrading to iOS 3.1.3 + Jailbreaking is the perfect combo for that phone. Or go to Android :)

- iPod skips alot, especially when using other functions while listening to music
- Some apps quit unexpectedly
- General performance all round seems to have slowed down.

I have been having the same issues with my 3GS 16GB.
Any way to fix?
I'm not too keen to upgrade to 4.0.1 incase it makes things worse. Overall quite disappointed with os4.

Same as above, do a full restore without a backup, should fix things up a bit :)

Best idea!

Getting pretty tired of my iPhone 3G and will look at importing an Android device to try out.

Anything to get rid of iTunes must be a good thing as well.

Thanks

Is there any reason why I shouldn't upgrade to os 4.0.1?

Jailbreak works fine, Finally some speed returns. Almost driven crazy by Os 4! Jailbreakme is a fine bit of work too.

I rolled back to 3.1.3 on the weekend and it makes the world of difference on the 3G.

No more  crappy ios4 lag and things work how they should now.

Much happier.
