Anyone bought an Apple TV yet and can report back if its any good?

I have a $100 gift voucher for Harvey Norman thats burning a hole in my pocket and thinking of getting one - my xbox in the living room isnt really cutting it for watching my movies from the mac.

Seems quite cheap and will integrate easily with my current Apple fanboy stuff - like ipad, macs and iphone :)

Also keen to see if it works with netflicks in NZ etc? and how much movie rentals are in NZD.

thanks!

Sam there are a couple of threads already about the new Apple TV (always pays to do a search first!):

Posting from work so can't add hyperlinks to the threads!

Netflix doesn't work in NZ either - you need to sign up first through their website which obviously detects that you aren't in the US so doesn't let you go any further.

Take a look at http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=76&topicid=69971

You'll have to have a Netflicks account already set up with a US address. There is an option for Netflicks on Apple TV but I don't have an account so I can't test it it. The alternative is to use a US-based VPN service to use Netflicks. The downloads will take forever and a day across the Pacific. By comparison, iTunes movies are locally served in NZ.

David.

To answer your question, it is awesome - for me anyway. I've got thousands of pictures on my home network, about 20Gb of music (in iTunes) and dozens of hours of home video. All of this can be streamed via the Apple TV to my HD TV / Home Theatre combo. And I can control it all from my iPhone 4 using the Remote App. I can also direct my music output to my study PC. With a US or UK iTunes account you can buy very reasonably priced content. It is a great bit of kit, and will be even better when they update iOS and start allowing apps to run on the Apple TV.
