Hey there,

I have recently switched the iPhone predictive text on but am finding it really annoying. I understand you can train it, but it does not like being trained and is often random.

For example I have always typed gud as "good" often it will predict gus or GHD or sometimes it will leave it at gud. This is very random. I have tried to train it by clicking on the x next to the word but after 10 goes its just becoming a pain.

Does anybody know how to fix without turning t9 off or the obvious; which is spelling it right in the first place...

Thanks!

I agree. It's not that hard either.

It's actually called autocorrect. With the emphasis on the 'correct'. The little x doesn't train it as such, but simply allows you to forfeit the autocorrect suggestion.

I'm not a fan of captain obvious nor of people who don't answer the question... Yes it is auto correct, however there is supposedly a way of training it. This word was only an example that I could think of at that moment, some words I use more than others, you all should know the issue with 'dual' on a nokia phone...

To demonstrate auto correction for valid words: My advise (oddly) is to continue typing even if you know you have made a mistake. As long as the incorrect character is not too far off from the intended

Use a simple example. if you want to type Pizza, type "O" as your first character instead (i.e a 1 character shift) then type "U" as your second character (another 1 character shift on the keypad) and then "ZZA"

You will find that the corrective behaviour is smart enough to pick this up.

The iPhone adds into its dictionary the second time you try and correct it. i.e. if you insist gud is a word, the second time you hit the "x" it gets stored and remembered. You are only corrupting your dictionary containing valid words if you keep doing that.

(By the way, shame on you using text speak. I'm not an old fart by any standards considering I am in my 20's). If you insist on using text speak then you can turn off auto-correction via the General --> Settings --> Keyboard option.

Lol shame!

Not really, its not just for text speak, some words that are correct do this too. gud was just an example...
