Got anything using background location services? or push email? they're the biggest battery drainers i know.

Turn off Spotlight Search as well. I got lousy battery on my work iPhone until someone said to turn off Spotlight Search (along with 3G if not needed) and battery life perked up a bit.

I get about a days life from browsing/Twitter etc, playing the odd game, using the GPS.

With the sort of use you indicate and with your screen dimmed (you shouldn't need to suffer with it too dark!) - you should be getting better battery life.
Don't forget to completely turn off your phone every now and then... maybe once a fortnight. Hold the sleep button until the slider appears and then power it down for a while before restarting - like a computer reboot.
I think that having the phone check for emails also uses up battery life, so if you're happy to check emails manually go to settings > Mail > Fetch Data - off - manually - then scroll down to Advanced and set accounts to Manual.
Some people claim that have Location Services enabled for too many apps is a bit of a battery sucker.

Yeah your usage is quite light. I'd expect a few days before needing a recharge. For reference, I get a day out of my iphone with everything on (3G, wifi, blu-tooth, push, location services etc) and quite a bit of usage.

:O i would love for mine to be able to the same, the only reason i restrict all the features is to try preserve battery life,

Does firmware make any difference?
