How messy is this?

While I dont have a desperate need to upgrade, if someone offered a good price on my mint iPad1 64Gb 3G/Wifi,  I would upgrade.

Can my existing iTunes data of the iPad1 be migrated to iPad2? Can I sync back all Apps, Contacts, and files I have added (photos, videos) to a different device?  I say this as iTunes will see my old iPad as one device and the new ipad as different.

My concern is that each device is recognised its it serial number.

What if the iPad1 stayed with me too?

Cheers

When you connect a new iPad or iPhone it will ask you if you'd like to put the contents of your latest backup (from the iPad 1) on to the iPad 2. If you do this your iPad 2 will become a clone of your iPad 1. If you don't choose this option and set up your iPad 2 as a new device you'll have to select the apps to install, rearrange your icons, etc, all over again.

Does this work between iPod Touch and iPad? For the apps that work on the iPad that is...

Well the apps will go straight on to the iPad but you won't have the ability to go from iPod to iPad as such.

If you've never had an iPad before, when you first connect it it will set it up as a new device and then you can sync away to your heart's content so all your universal apps will be set up to automatically sync to it, but you can't restore an iPod backup to a new iPad - that option is only offered when you're replacing one device with another one of the same type.
