I currently own an iphone 4 and am a Vodafone customer. The problem is, when I'm out and about and I tether my notebook to my phone, the download speeds are appalling, and I often have to retry page loads etc. Does anyone know if this is a problem with Telecom in the Wellington CDB? I'm thinking of switching...

This occurs because of the iPhone requirement of using multi RAB to use the hotspot feature. No other phone or device has this requirement so every other device will function fine as a hotspot, except for an iPhone.

Vodafone are currently in the process of redeploying this on their network.

According to the Vodafone forum, this issue (presuming that you are tethering using the wifi hotspot feature) should have been fixed in the early hours of this morning. Have you tried tethering today?

Tethering seems to get good speeds with XT for me. very often share with a couple of iPads and never have a problem. Just as good as home broadband most of the time

Multi RAB was deployed right across the VFNZ 3G network early hours of this morning. Please try again and let me know how it goes?

Thanks

I can confirm that Johnr is correct. This now runs perfectly Cool

Getting 3 Mbit/s down which is great.

Alas, my boy's sick so I can't get into work. If I get the chance, I'll use my home notebook and get some figures

Thanks

A vast improvement. According to the speed test, my tethered device was faster than my mobile.  I don't know if this is a rounding error, the fact hat it has a faster chip than the iphone or a bug in the test sotware, but I'm happy because the actual speed was useable. Thanks
