Two things have happened at the same time and I'm wanting to know if anyone has the same symptoms. I upgraded iTunes and sync my wifes' new iPhone 4S (Christmas Present), she has just under 32GB of content (mostly music) and the sync is still going, after starting Boxing Day (about 16 hours so far). Is this an issue with iTunes upgrade or do we have a faulty unit?

iPhone is 64GB model from the Apple on-line store (apple.com/nz, but sent from Australia).
iTunes is on Win XP SP3 laptop.

Hmm... hard to know exactly, but it sounds like it may be hanging on something. I would suggest canceling the sync and then restarting it. It shouldn't cause any problems at all. It may just be really slow on the first sync - specially if there's a lot of music that is being converted to 128kb during the sync.... but that sounds like too long to me.
Santa was very generous, huh?!

Thanks, I tried that, and it was able to continue, but still as slow. 128 is the current encoding, I used that for overall device compatibility.

Ps. I bought three phones in the last year for myself, so my wife sees it as Santa "rebalancing" the relationship

Is WiFi sync turned on? Try disabling if so and resync

Re. the 128kb music thing - FYI Uglybob - there's an option when syncing to leave all the high qual encoded music on your computer and save space on your device by re-encoding it to 128kb. This can be very slow on older machines... hopefully the OP's wife's phone is all synced & ready for action now.

I know, I'm just being a music nerd. I started listening to FLAC a while ago and now can't stand the sound of mp3s or other low bitrates.

WiFi sync is on, I'll try turning it off she gets the laptop back

I reckon its probably prioritising that over the cable.
