I'm running iTunes on a PC connected directly to the amplifier inside, which has speakers outside. I control the tracks and volume from various iOS devices using the Apple remote application. What I'm wanting to do is replace the PC with a dedicated server solution, I was hoping iTunes on an iPad would do it, but the iTunes on the iPad is client oriented and not a replica of the PC based software. I was wondering if Apple TV (or another Apple device) does this?
Apple TV 2 is not going to replace a PC or a server. However if you jailbreak it, you can point it at a NAS so it can access your music database via the XBMC platform. There are many, many posts on here re: ATV2 jail breaking, however for the most in depth information, checkout the XBMC website.
Thanks, I have a NAS currently, it just seems a waste to use a laptop as a dedicated media player but it doesn't appear that server side iTunes only runs on OS/X or Windows.
