Apple have announced a product launch, presumed to be for the iPad 3 on 7 March (US time).

What's missing from the iPad 2 that you want to see on the iPad 3? Quad core is probably a given, but what about Siri, retina display, etc....

I think that a quad core processor might be a bit ambitious considering that they won't want to compromise battery life, but I am definitely hoping for Siri and retina display. That would be enough for me to upgrade my generation 1 unit.

Siri is a given, as is a Retina display by all rumours. How does the iPad2 go playing HD video and games? If it does them fine, I cant see the reason for quadcore, more so for smartphones.

I'm a little more interested in what they have in store for the upgraded Apple TV, rumours of a new Bluetooth remote, 1080p and Siri sound pretty exciting.

For the iPad I think Retina is a given but there are now also rumours of no home button which would be a pretty big change.

No home button? Interesting. That would signify to me that iPhone 5 also has no home button.

Was discussing iPhone 5 and SGS3 with a mate yesterday, from memory, if they kept same form factor, they can do 4.2" now by going to the edge of the ear and home button, and very close to the edge of the side. If they moved the ear, slimmed the home button they can do 4.5" now, by making the screen as full as they can. If they made the 5 a tad longer and a tad wider, they could do 4.9" No home button makes that very easy.

Removing the home button from the iPad3 would make the iPhone 5 like the SGS3, almost full full screen, the SGS3 is 4.8. Perhaps the hardware home button is there on the side as a mini button

iPad3 should/will also have a 4S camera, as iPad camera is weak. Dual core with larger battery hopefully, and ability to auto-overclock would be nice for intensive uses

Is that why the AppleTV is low in stock? I think they are still around, but I know the major retailers are having issues restocking them.
Wonder how quickly the ATV3 will get jailbroken. I want the ATV2 to JB it for XBMC.

I reckon they'll segment the iPad range this year. Bringing out the retina equipped 3 at a slightly higher price than current, but continue to manufacture the 2 at perhaps a lower price than current rrp, since it lends itself better to the Education sector.

Not sure about the home button thing. My parents will often accidently hit it during a FaceTime conversation or whilst passing an app or website between each other so I can see the frustration there. It is kinda like a saftey blanket tho, if all else fails, press this!

Siri should be on the ipad 2, to differenciate it from teh ipad 1, plus it's hardware is the same as the iphone 5s. I think it maybe added eventually.

I personally don't care about Siri but the retina display is looking very good.

I was going to get an iPad 2 but the screen was to low res.

I would like to see the aluminum back anodized in different colours. No home button does not bother me my android tab has no real buttons and works fine.

I'm going to have to controll myself to not buy one as I have no need for one and never use my android tab as it is.

Just read the new specs. Nice incremental change on an already great device. Not enough to make me start using my iPad2 as a doorstop though.
And it won't stop the faithful lining up around the block on the 23rd.
The thing I find most amazing that with the release a little more than a week away for the more important parts of the world, that there hasn't been any prior leaks of information. pictures, etc. Just shows how secure Apple's supply chain is.

I found it interesting that there was such interest it what the new tablet would be called. My personal opinion is that the iPhone will continue on its alternation between model and S model, and the iPad jump in whole numbers to finally be unified as the iPhone/iPad 6. Apple please don't sue me for revealing your secret (I don't think they have patented the plan) ;)

There has been plenty of leaked pictures/information/speculation at this site http://www.padgadget.com/ which sources much of its info from other places.  No different to the build up to past releases...

Agree 100%, its great. I dont want to keep buying a tablet every year, so if I can have an iPad2 with Retina display, I'm in. Having said that, the iPad 2 display is still very good
