So, we went to the UK, and booked a hire a car with a gps device, but the company did not have a gps device available.

So we drove up the road to a Halfords (I think) and purchased a basic Garmin Nuvi 42 for GBP50, which was probably less than they would have charged to hire one.

But it is of no use to me here in NZ (being basic, I don’t think you can replace the UK, and maybe Europe, map with the NZ/Oz map).

Anyone going to the UK and want to take it off my hands for half the original price? Pristine condition, in box, all leads, and not registered or updated.

I'll even pay the postage.

Hey, have you listed a price, location and how much shipping would be to other parts of New Zealand? Also if you are asking for a PM make sure your Privacy settings allow your account to receive PM otherwise people can't contact you. Also note if you are selling something we ask you to offer to other members first. Links to private sales (including Trade Me posts) aren't accepted anymore and will be removed.

If you can make it bring up a reasonable size speedo display I could be interested.  Tank mounted speedo on my motorcycle is out of sight and out of mind so I was considering mounting a GPS on the bars.

The speed display is the usual size, pretty small, and I've no idea whether it could be enlarged --no suggestion of that in the manual, so I don't think this is what you want...

Thanks for checking.  Sometimes with these devices you can bring up a 'trip computer' display and with some brands/models that includes a big speedo readout.  Not seen that for years tho.  :)

Since it's a Garmin device, you should be fine to use it here....

Go have a look at http://nzopengps.org/ - free weekly updated (if you want) GPS maps - all done by the community, for the community.  The more active users the better!

I don't think so...  Usually can update free in the first year.
