Where in NZ are you?

What do you usually want to achieve on the PC?   General Net surfing, backing up a camera/photos?  Email?

Assume you will re-use the monitor / keyboard / mouse?

Theres a few ex lease desktops for sale by reputable firms around different parts of NZ.

What is your current desktop?  Do you know the specs?

I have looked around most of the sites but nothing I can afford straight off

it needs to have at least a 2.3 Quad Core or i5 2.3 Dual Core

8GB of ram

250GB hard disk

PCI-E soughts

Its going to be used as a workstation, ranging from Office work through to 3D modeling

$100 for a basic office PC, sure, that's doable.. .. But 3D modelling is going to be slow and painful if it's even viable on anything that cheap.

What are the specs of you current desktop? You may be able to reuse your current graphics card and RAM.

The current computer I have cost me $50 4 years ago off here, it was already 5 years old when I got it.

Out of 8 USB ports 2 are functioning and if I use the other 6 they crash the computer, the graphics card that was in it was only a 512 and it is 8 years old and has now crapped itself too, when I got the computer it didnt come with a hard drive so I put one of mine in it which is now 10 years old, the CPU is a Quad Core but also has over heating issues, I could replace with stuff between the heat sink and CPU (cant think of the name right now) but what is the point when that might not solve the issue, the CPU is around 9 years old. The RAM seems to be going strong its only 4GBs tho DDR3 1066 and that is a matter of finding compatible RAM.

Hence my need to upgrade
