neb: From when I looked at it, which was 10+ years ago, the comments were that the only time it might be needed is if you had really odd acoustics like having your elephant sleep in the middle of the room, or for people who would have one speaker stack jammed against the wall and the other in free space in the middle of the room. For anyone else, decent speakers and following advice on how to position them would do more than a gimmick calibration mike ever would.
It really helped with a bad bass issue on a friends system. For one particular place in the room until anything else in the room changed. Close the curtains - really bad again.
It cant help with partner mandated crap speaker placement for everyone in the room.
