Anyone on the Auckland's north shore got one of those I can borrow for an hour? Only need to drill one hole so buying one at ~$35-50 + another $30 for the arbor seems a bit extreme. The common kit sizes are either slightly under or over and I need these to be exact to fit a desk grommet.

Again, its something I have as I needed to aliexpress one to put in some cable gromits that I got at bunnings which they were unable to supply a holesaw for.

Do you need the grunty one to metal or a wood one?

I will be looking for the pole and this tomorrow morning so can let you know an you can come get or I can drop off.

I feel your pain. Mr Bunnings man was equally confused why they only sold grommets in metric but only sold holesaws in imperial.

I have an 80mm too if you want to use the larger ones that they sell. Not used that yet because I put a 60 in and its too hard to upgrade the hole size.

I think you can nest them to use the smaller one to guide it in to the existing hole.

@richms if you need to enlarge a holesaw hole then stick the old and new sizes on the arbour at the same time. The smaller inner one keeps it centred on the old hold until the larger outer one is started.

they are both imperial and metric, 60mm = 2-3/8". they are available from tool places. they don't drill accurately enough to be able to tell the difference between 60mm and 2-3/8". i doubt the grommets are even accurate.

they usually just stock the common used sized and 60mm is a rare size for a pipe etc.

If all else fails I'm also close by and have a 54 and 62, should be easy enough to use a half-round file to enlarge the 54 hole to a 60 if it's in particle board or similar desk material.

Alternatively, use a 62 and run some draught-excluder tape around the inside of the hole to act as a gasket.

Edited to add: If it is veneered/laminated particle board, run something like PVA around the cut surface and rub it in with your finger to stabilise the edges and prevent moisture ingress so it won't degrade at that location.

That works if you want them coaxial, as this is right at the corner of a desk I have to put it off center of the existing hole.

Also I can't find either of them at the moment. I have others I have bought but not the wood one. Guess I left it where I last used it or was about to use it.

Cut the required hole in something big enough to clamp over the area you need to modify. That will keep the saw on target.

It'll be outdoors, or at least just outdoors enough that it'll have had some rain exposure since you left it there and will now have a layer of rust on it.

At that size you didn't have an outdoor table that needed the umbrella hole enlarged? Maybe at a neighbour's.

@xbmcnut Not sure where you have got to on this but I have a 60 you’re welcome to borrow if not already sorted. I’m in Mairangi Bay.

Please PM me to follow up.

Thanks, appreciated. Just picked one up from richms along with a hockey stick so all sorted.
