I am in the market for a good satellite receiver that can scan D1. I don’t want to steal Sky or hack anything, I just need a decent box with HDMI and digital audio out that can find and record the Freeview channels and some others and isn’t crippled with restrictions. It will probably have to be shipped as I live in rural Hawke's Bay.

You could just put a DVB-S2 card in a PC and use some of the good freeware software to record with.  From my (limited) experience with satellite boxes, it would be a much better user experience.

Not a bad suggestion but then I would need a DVB-S2 card and a pc to put it in. Either way I need the hardware.
