Hi all, bit of a pricecheck wtd....

Asus A8N-32SLI Deluxe motherboard
AMD FX60 Dual core @2.6ghz (with orig HSF)
2x 1GB Corsair DDR (fancy stuff with flashy LEDs - will get exact specs)
8400GS 256mb PCI-Express video card

Any ideas what Id potentially get for it ? Components only, no case/psu etc.

Trying to work out if its worth flogging off to help fund a new machine or keep it........

Thanks Smile

hey, I'd say roughly anything from 250-500. I also know that most buyers on trademe will see the 2.6ghz and think "that's so crap" but not actually know the value of an FX60, that's why my estimate varies so much. I used to love the old FX range when I was into AMD(I've gone 3/4 Intel now, 1/4 AMD in my house)

I thikn the main turnoffs are the DDR and the video card.

Hmm, I'm not sure, if you could manage say $350 with that setup, then I'd say that'd go well towards new components :) save up some money + the 350 and get a 5850/5870, a nice dual or quad core AM3 socketed CPU(check reviews, there are some scorching chips out from AMD at the mo at good prices too). get some DDR3 and some nice new HDDs :)

I'm a big fan of upgrading every 6 months or so as I enjoy all the latest games.

or you could keep it as a dedicated server, media centre PC as the 8400GS should decode HD quite well

Heh, been down the media centre route, wife wasnt happy having 2 computers running 24/7 ;)

I'd only need CPU, mainboard, RAM and video card for a new system..will keep exisiting drives etc for any upgrade I do... HDD space isnt a concern to me anymore as Im getitng on a bit now (gee...33 sucks ;) ) and with #2 kid on the way I wont have a lot of time to store lots of games/movies etc :)

I need to clear the path with the wife first, then if all clear, then Ill l0ook at selling the FX60 and getting something along the lines of the following :

CPU Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 2.66GHz
Motherboard ASUS P5QL Pro
RAM CORSAIR 2GB XMS2 x2
Video XFX HD-485X-YDFK Radeon HD 4850

Video may change as by the time I get to do this prices wouldve dropped some more....
Itll be the final upgrade for me Im thinking. Itll have to last me quite some time :-p

What I would do is look up the prices of the parts as new (or a substitute part which performs similarly) on pricespy, then if you're selling on geekzone use 66% of the new price... if you're selling on trademe use 110% of the new price Tongue out

eg:  8400GS is ~$42 on new on pricespy, so selling to a geekzoner ~$28, selling on trade me ~$45
