I see there was a complaint earlier about Garmin not responding to map errors /corrections etc. and Im sure everyone will have experienced these at some times regardless of their model of GPS.
Anyways, think about it, Garmin releases their maps yearly, they are so out of date and the number of changes made in that time is huge.
The garmin allows you to load your own maps and POIs. This also means if you find an error, you can correct it on the map yourself.
http://nzopengps.org/ is a community which keep a map called zenbu.co.nz this map can be updated by anyone (its a wiki style map) and on a weekly basis its exported to a map file which you can download and install onto your GPS. (obviously most people wont need such regular updates)
I wont go into too much detail since its all covered on the site, http://nzopengps.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=4:nuvi-how-to&catid=7:how-to-documents&Itemid=9 is a good place if you want to jump right in.
In the forums there are people who are responsible for particular areas of NZ, and I would recommend if you find something that needs to be corrected you ask in the appropriate thread and have them do it for you. For example if the GPS tells you to turn right onto a street that doesn't allow right turns you can request to have a turn restriction put it place, and they usually add it to zenbu within 24 hours, and then every Wednesday (I think) you can visit the site to download the map with all the updates onto your Garmin GPS.
I would recommend everyone give it a try, the maps are very well updated by a huge community of people working together to keep it accurate and the forums are a great if you need help with anything.
Flamer.
