At about 10am this morning my workmates took a photo standing in front of the Google Maps Street View car :)

Looked in the front, there was a LCD computer screen in the passengers seat and in the back seat there was a server!

Updating images already ay Google? :P

Nah, It will simply be storing all the photo data and tagging it with GPS location data etc

The amount of raw data collected will be impressive, and I suspect it will be dumping it to a RAID array to store it all

Yep they are updating their maps :) which is good, can't wait to get my old car off my houses drive :S

There's a story on the google streetview blog about the updates, think it's NZ, Aus and UK

Cool! Maybe this time they'll actually manage to find the street I live in and take some pics.

Perhaps now they will discover the road around the corner from me actually connects through to the next road and does not end 50m from it (Jan Place in Pakuranga, Auckland). The only map that has this correct is Wises.

Yea you are right, it was one of those racks (probably full of Hard Drives) but there was a desktop computer case running it all in the back seat.

Link to the Google New Zealand blog about the latest Street View update: Here.
Tells us that they are much higher definition compared to the current NZ street view and you can see an example of the new better quality streetview on that page.
