For those that use Nokia maps, the latest version is out of beta. Its now using forward tracking as opposed to north tracking. Great improvement (finally....) Download via Ovi.

Forgive my ignorance, but what does that mean?

Which part? :-)

Nokia have a free GPS application called Maps. It works on most of their touch screen phones and is a free standing app that doesnt require network connections.

Previously, the position tracking was always orientated with north at the top. Now it always tracks up (like most normal GPS's do)

Ovi maps always showed track up when navigating to a set destination, but didn't do this when you were just driving or walking without a destination set, instead it would show north up.

Now with the new version it shows track up with or without a destination set.  Also the new version seems to be much quicker aquiring your position if you have moved since you last use the GPS.

It is a very well featured navigation app with turn by turn navigation voice directions that does not require you to be online for it to work, and it's free!!!!!!
