As of today, Google Maps offers the Live/Historical "Traffic Layer" for New Zealand

Wow that's cool. Pity I can't make use of it since I won't upgrade past v5.8 on android since they have wakelock issues which drain my battery flat in next to no time, with GM 5.8 I can get 2 days from my battery.

Depends how many Google devices sending that data from 'My Location' going past a given point.

At the bottom left of maps you can try the prediction feature, based on historical data.
