Seems way to frequent, had more problems with Orcon in 2 months than Slingshot in a year (Surprisingly).
Really don't see the point of Fibre if the isp keeps crapping out.

Just to note it's not JUST fiber. I'm on the LIMITED (60GB) ADSL and it's the same.

Hi guys

We had a huge ddos targeted at a Hamilton DSL customer. Caused a big impact to international traffic.

out of curiosity do you just terminate peoples accounts when they get huge ddos attacks against them?

So someone DDOS a poor little DSL line and they totals your international?  That's pretty shocking...

i'm imagining it was 10 gigabit+.

but it does make you wonder, can they do automatic ddos detection/isolation in the US before it hits NZ?

a basic analogy maybe nuking a car. the fallout is much bigger than the size of the car, due to the force created.. overkill has fallout

We keep notes :-) and if it a constant thing, we would have a chat :-)

Having our own network in the US, does allow us to do smart things like this.

We favor the dectection and act model over the Automagic action systems.

even for residential dsl?

i suppose the bigger thing sitting in my mind, is whether there can be more isolation...

like (say) 1 gigabit per block of users, or something from US to NZ... so at least some level of containment.

although in this case i assume it overwhelmed the sandvine rather than depleted international bandwidth.
