Yes, I agree, there isn't much incentive for 2Degrees to have a $10/500MB. I think if the pricing structure was right, e.g. $15 for 500MB, then there could potentially be more uptake from users who use more than 100MB but less 1GB, and the customers who are roaming on Vodafone and can only get $10 for 100MB won't feel ripped off. Those who use >500MB will still stay on the 1GB addon.

2Degrees could then use that as an opportunity to shift casual data users to higher usage data users. For example, one year ago, 100MB was enough for me. Now, I'm using between 500MB - 1GB. All it took was having more data at cost effective prices and having a smartphone and I was hooked.

Not to long down the track there would be more complaints along the line of "are we getting ripped off? 500mb for $15 yet 1GB for $20"

I raised a similar discussion a few months ago as I could only consume 400~500mb a month on my 2D pay monthly and the $20 data pack seemed uneconomic. Long story short i switched over to VF and secured the 3gb/mth and 6mths later i am averaging 1~2gb/mth just with normal use.

$20/gb is not a bad addon (assuming you can stay within their zones) as over time you become accustomed to having the data and consuming it at will so your usage pattern will make better use of the pack

Maybe not. The structure follows along the lines of the more you pay, the cheaper the data is, which is the norm. Vodafone and Telecom already do this where you get more data value for money the more you pay, so customers would expect this to some extent and it wouldn't come out of the left field.

Considering the below prices, I think 2Degrees could provide a better deal for data users between 100MB - 500MB.

e.g
Vodafone (Prepay) - $6 for 50MB / $10 for 100MB / $30 for 500MB / $50 for 2GB
Telecom (Prepay) - $6 for 50MB / $12 for 150MB / $18 for 300MB / $25 for 500MB / $50 for 2GB

@Wade our situation seems to be similar. I tried the $20/1GB addon from 2Degrees and could only manage 500MB. Months later, I signed on to a VF smart plan with a new SGS2 and suddenly my data usage increases. I've used about 1GB this month.

It is very interesting looking at data usage patterns and pinpointing when users start adapting their behaviour to the plan/addon available as data becomes more cost effective.
