There's a total in visibill (you have to change the billing period to current to see this month's usage, otherwise it'll only show previous months.)

Unfortunately, it's only an aggregate (and not separated into up/down.)

nixjr: Is there any way for someone on the unlimited plan to check how much data they've used this month? I know there is no data cap, but I'd still be curious to know how much I've used. I couldn't find it on the customer control panel on slingshot's website.

You can if you go to the Visibill online accounts. Bottom right of my account page.

Ah thank you, I wouldn't have thought to look in the billing section.

I'm very pleased with my speeds on this plan. I've done 720GB in 12 days.

Multiple levels of disclaimer here, and I am a heavy user too. I also work for Telecom - not involved in retail planning though.

As for why he's done 720GB in 12 days?

Well, if I paid $100/month for my electricity I would leave my air conditioner on 24*7. If I was a bit hot in one room I may open a door for a while rather than change my ideal settings for the aircon unit.

I'd hope the electricity company had enough light users to make this a sustainable practice for a few users.

Cheers - N

tl;dr... Why not?

the main reason I'd have is that I couldn't possibly afford the storage for that much data accumulated on a monthly basis Laughing (but if a lot of that is upload, then gobbless you, sir)

another reason: holy crap it can be time-consuming to think up something to download, to find it, to get it, name it, store it, back it up. etc.  ...I'd like to have no cap, but having one isn't all bad :)

you could look at the status from your tray icon before you shut down your computer (especially if you like to leave it running 24/7). that would at least tell you what you've been up to lately, if not a offer a grand total.

That might work in some situations.  In this household we have four computers. One laptop with Windows, and three desktops with Debian.  The Debian fileserver is the only one that's on 24/7 but the only time it uses the internet is for updates,  Some router/modems keep a running total (my last one did), but this one only records the current session, not a cumulative monthly total.

Hard drive space might become an issue soon, I have 1.8TB free right now.  I haven't looked into hard drive prices recently but last time I checked the floods were still having an impact.

Thinking up something to download is a non-issue for me right now.  It's taken a long time to convince the household to switch to another provider.  I've got a list of things to download which I've been adding to for months now.  I expect my usage will probably drop off in the second month once I've worked my way though most of the things on that list.

I have bash scripts which handle the file naming for me.  I'm a bit OCD about my file storage and these scripts help keep everything to a uniform standard.

My internet became very slow since yesterday and my download speed dropped from 300kB/s to 60kB/s this morning. Anyone has the same issue?

Yes. Well done.

You have discovered "unlimited" dsl.

No need to abuse it so they will remove it.
I only download what I need when I need it.
