What is the pricing on the data blocks when you go over your cap? can't seem to find a page with that info.
Oh and can you top up prior to going over your limit ?

You get rate limited to dial up speed with no extra costs however you can top up at $2 per gb to get you through till your next cycle

Can this be preloaded to prevent ever being rate limited? So if I had 5GB of data left am I able to add another 20GB prior to running out?

or could I talk to someone at Snap about setting the account up so that if I go over I'm automatically just charged $2 per gb I go over(Like Orcon does).

You can top up with extra data at anytime. You should start getting notification that you have nearly run out when you have used around 90% of your monthly data. Let me know if this isn't happening and I can check it out for you.

If you don't want to get rate limited, you can switch over to a business plan which will just charge you $2 per gb.

Is this email notification a recent change as I've never been emailed when I've approached my limit, but then saying that I've not yet got near the limit in the past few months.

Any ETA on when the unlimited youtube/itunes addons will come on? I'm very interested in moving to Snap but would like to know if these are coming soon and how much they will cost?

I was just on the phone to "Harrison" in the call centre (really nice guy, BTW) and he advised that you can get "all you can eat" on almost any website (including YouTube), for "probably" $3 per month per website. He said it's starting in June.

Perhaps Ralph can confirm?

I was in contact with Snap yesterday, very friendly and reasonably fast email customer service. At the moment I have the luxury of using Xtra over a Wi-Fi link 3KM to a mates place for a few pennies.

I run a web server and he does audio streaming to various radio stations so has bandwidth to burn.

I'm looking at getting Snap naked DSL 5GB to get me started at my place and moving my tiny web server to it along with using it as a back-up plan for an 80Kbps audio stream.

Although now they've mentioned in here about business plans and automatically getting charged, I like the idea of that as I manage my own bandwidth.

Can't wait to see the business plans, especially naked DSL on the new site.

It's been available since last night! :)

Google and Youtube are the only options at the moment, Facebook, AppleTV, Itunes and maybe even Trademe will be coming soon :)

Be a huge win in general IMO if all ISPs could zero-rate services like itunes, so it actually becomes more feasible to use their movie rental service without losing a fair wack of your datacap

Quite excited by this as I have noticed a good chunk of our datacap now goes on Youtube streaming each month. If the feedback from existing Snap users is good I'll seriously consider moving.

well i signed up for You Tube for $2 a month and now i can watch most videos now in Higher quality and not yell at the kids to get of You Tube

I've been hum-ing and har-ing about moving to Snap from TCL for a while now, these unmeterred youtube/itunes offers are going to make it pretty hard to resist :o

I just feel like my TCL performance is generally very good .. if it aint broke and all that!

RIP net neutrality....

Across the board un-metering of things hosted in your DC or network or accessible by cheap/open peering = good
Individual customers paying extra to specifically un-meter certain sites = a bad slippery slope.

Given they already have akamai (facebook, itunes and apple heavily use akamai) and google/youtube caching, why don't they just un-meter all traffic to and from those servers now for all customers?

Consider they have already invested in the caching servers, basically a sunk cost.. it's already benefiting them by reducing their international transit.

While I'm sure their intent is not bad , I think this kind of thing crosses the line and is an early step down the road to an eventual walled garden type internet.

Dark day imo.

You definitely make some good points. While it appears the intention from Snap is certainly a good one in this instance you do have to wonder how this will evolve over time.

I feel it is a difficult place for the consumer though, I have to admit I'm 'guilty' of supporting this myself. The amount of data we can chew through on youtube alone in a month can be quite staggering. Which makes this offer very appealing in the short term; balancing up the cost of using 20GB of data on youtube as opposed to paying the $2/month, particularly here in NZ where data caps aren't the largest, coupled with more and more video content appearing daily. But yes the net neutrality angle is definitely something to consider.

On the other hand, 'unlimited' plans have of course been tried in the past, only to be canned due to sustainability/performance problems. While perhaps not the best implementation as far as net neutrality goes, I'm sure this is also [partly] intended to stop it simply becoming another big time? Although, P2P doesn't play a role either this time.

As you say, a lot of the content is already cached, so it makes sense to unmeter cached content rather than being selective - which I can see is where you are coming from. But then, we're getting back to the national/international data argument, what is national, what isn't, how does the average user know? What websites are 'worthy' of caching? Sort of back to net neutrality again in a way?
