Oops.  Quoted the wrong post.  Was aimed at Asmodeus... with quite low speeds to Auckland.

Vodafones Speedtest Server has been tweaked to give accurate results for speedtests.
Meaning it adds X% (not sure how much) to represent the speed so I heard....

I have iStat Menu's on my Mac & I use the bandwidth monitor, so it shows how many KB/s, MB/s its getting, with VF's speed test it shows 3.4MB/s when running the test, so it's not giving BS results.  Atleast for me :P

Seems to have gone downhill again in the last day or so. It was ok over the weekend but there are problems with Youtube and international sites in general.

they changed all their routes.  a whole lot of traffic is going via san jose to los angeles, to other places now.

but i'm seeing ok europe performance, slightly slower than this morning.

speeds have really dropped now, and jitter is up. so yeah, they're probably running out of capacity still.

We did some major changes to our USA POP location. We moved out of LA and into San Jose.

Also changed Transit providers from TiNET to Level3.

So some tweaking required. We have plenty of capacity.

Is there an issue atm? I'm getting half the usual speed to telecom, a tenth the speed to others, latency is up 2-3x

Frustrating when you're trying to diagnose existing speed problems when problems crop up on their network elsewhere.

Anyone noticed Youtube performing badly these past few days? Some videos load at 3+MB/s, others just sit and don't load at all (Various quality settings) or they buffer like 3 mins of say a 10 min video and then it just stops and won't load again... Wasn't like this a couple weeks back.

Orcon has never had youtube right in the last few years. The popular ones are cached, but lesser known videos show the true extent of international bandwidth problems that Orcon seems to suffer from.

They need to get it sorted or slowly people will just give up and go elsewhere, which is a pity, as I still think they have something to offer.

But the continual international traffic issues are really starting to eat away at good faith.
