Xnet had equivalent bandwidth issues when I left them, they were perfect for a few weeks after I joined, than BAM!
same deal...Telecom Broadband (aka the ISP formally known as Xtra) are probably the only ISP with good and plenty backhaul

We are running short on bandwidth (below the dimensioning for the netowrk) at the moment - hence the issues for us. This is why we are upgrading tonight. I am just pointing out why there is a difference between the amount of bandwidth provisioned per user on Orcon+ vs non-Orcon+ broadband connections.

That wasn't intended to be an explination for the issues we have right now.

Ok, So let me get this right.

Should I expect the same sort of broadband service that I was getting with Xtra, via Orcon, after this fix tonight. Or would my broadband service be sub-standard as compared to my service that I got with Xtra? Does that make sense? I have only ever , until now, been a Xtra Broadband customer. I thought Broadband is Broadband.

All I want, is the same as I was getting with Xtra - but better service, lower prices (as in the past we only ever had one choice Telecom). Now that we don't have to stick with Telecom/Xtra and as consumers we can shop around - I just want the same for less. If you know what I mean.

When my area is unbundeled, Torbay, Auckland (which I was told was happening very soon by customer services) - will I get a more stable, non-fluctuating broadband service than compared to Xtra's ADSL2 which is being updated at my exchange in Mid July? Or even if it is just the same.

All I want to do is play WoW in the evenings with my hubby

and it has been imposible the last 2 months.

Sorry for my lack of technical'ness it has never ever been my forte. I prefer to keep it in layman terms.

Great news guys - the bandwidth upgrade is now provisioned and piping data through.

Kiwipearls - I haven't forgotten about your question, but right now I am off to the pub... it has been a long week! I promise that I will write a better explination of how the networks are different over the next few days.

Sorry Duncan, but not only is it not better, but I kid you not, its the worst its been in a long time. I am unable to break 40K consistently downloading from a site I know has HUGE pipes and who whom I can max my connection out on regularly. Either the new bandwidth isn't in properly, someone misconfigured it, or this is not the problem you have been talking about fixing (which would be unmentionably dissapointing.

I feel your pain.

For us, so far, we have a stable connection with latecny averaging 175ms in WoW. That is a huge improvement for a friday night.

The real test though comes over the weekend during the day. So I will post my feedback after then - or when it is negative (if I expericnece it(crossfingers, touch wood)).

Anyways, back to my date with hubby in WoW. Hope it stays stable, else we'll be ending our date in front of the telly instead of kicking some PvP butt..lol

Im in the same boat. My speeds have drop substantially tonight. Downloads are going a 30K max from ITUNES!! Usually im maxing it on iTunes.

It is most certainly NOT fixed

and local traffic

to add insult to injury its actually getting worse

This with no torrents running, no streaming media, just a speedtest.

I'm getting good download speeds now - but they keep getting cut off before they are fully downloaded! Anyone else got this issue?

Not me. I get complete downloads but very slow intl speeds even after midnight.
IMHO this upgrade has made things worse rather than better.
I called Orcon as was told to wait until tomorrow and see if things were better...hardly a useful response :-(

Also getting incomplete downloads here, both nationally and internationally. Its as though my connection cannot maintain synch, but when I check the router all is fine with the exchange synching, appear to lose IP with Orcon
