Tried to sign up to the plan today and was told by both CSR and escalation that its for new customers only.

PM has been sent your way Morganbrowne, thanks for all the help you are giving everyone.

As noted in another forum, I was considering swapping to Orcon (the mesh Google Wifi for $5/month was tempting).

But gave 2Degrees a call, spoke to 2 people (initial CSR, then retention) who were excellent to deal with and I'm now signed up for another 12 months at the new rate.

So I assume that the $85 for this promotion excludes a static IP?

That is correct, according to a previous post where someone getting the free static lost the privilege when re-signing at the discounted rate. Still cheap enough if you add the $10 a month for a static IP, and the those who were getting a free static IP thanks to CGNAT issues were only getting a free IP V4 address, not IP V6. I believe the $10 gives you both? Happy to be corrected here.

I had the same problem - max 100 down and a range of upload speeds from 250-350.  Called the helpdesk and they changed a setting and couple mins later i was properly provisioned.  Give them a yell, unsure whats going on with the upgrade process but its missing a step somewhere.  Easy fix anyhow.

@morganbrowne  Following the above experience and others mentioned in this thread I thought I would run a check and ended up with 100 down/390 up. CSR was unable to help as she stated that I wouldn't get the speeds until my next Billing Cycle clicked over.

I mentioned that I was already getting the upload speed and she couldn't explain that. Also that I had the text from 2 degrees to say the changeover had been provisioned and completed. Then that others on Geekzone had the same issue which had been resolved by a call to tech support.

Seems strange and a bit inconsistent.

And as if by magic when I checked today I was getting the full advertised speeds 😃

Yes, only a static IP V4 address was applied here, although I'm thinking I should keep a copy of the original communication from 2degrees:

"I've run this past my supervisor and based off the systems you're running we've applied an IPv4 Static IP for you of xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx this will be free of charge so long as you have an account with us.

Hope this helps!

Kind Regards,"

More great service from 2 degrees.  On my second ring I got 1 person whose contract had 2 weeks to go on to the new price/plan and for a small break fee I got it for my self as well.

Just have to wait for it to kick in.

Thanks 2d.

Do you have an on-account mobile plan with 2Degrees? If not, the price is $85 a month for 12 months.

Then as previously mentioned, send a PM to @morganbrowne, who will be able to assist. The problem you mention has not cropped up before, so it's worth following up.

2degrees use CGNAT so keep this in mind...

https://help.2degreesmobile.co.nz/app/answers/detail/a_id/402/~/changes-to-ip-addresses-%28cgnat%29

Any service or outside connection that is designed to reach you via your device’s public IP address to communicate with your modem won’t work. You may also notice an impact in the below.

  • Multiplayer video games where you’re hosting a session/server
  • Website hosting
  • Services or devices that rely on port forwarding
  • Torrents will only be able to establish outbound connections
  • Internet-enabled devices that are reached by IP address (e.g. IP cameras/security cameras)
  • Remote access to home network storage, backups and remote desktop service
  • Services that rely on Dynamic DNS (DDNS)
  • VPN servers

But, you can buy a static IP for $10/month.  $85 month is still a great price for those wanting static IP's. The ISP industry runs on such fine margins, I wonder if it is sustainable at such pricing.

We also provide all customers with an IPv6 address which allows all these services to work if they support IPv6

Just to double check; on ipv4 one is behind a the CGNAT but when it comes to ipv6 you've got a public IP address?

Side note: What is the connection like from 2 Degrees to AWS (specially Amazon Connect)?

For IPv6 each connection is delegated a /56 IPv6 subnet, there is a sticky at the top of the forum that goes into more detail. This is a publicly reachable address range.

2degrees has direct connectivity into AWS in Sydney for Public Services (i.e. accessed over the Internet) and also for Private connections using Direct Connect for our WAN customers.

Re-Signed for 12 months from years out of contract for this deal, switchover was completed last night and totally painless.  Well almost totally painless, the only issue was internal to my network (damaged ethernet cable means half of it is only running at 100Mbit and I never realised until now! Will fix then post some speedtests because that's why we get gigabit right?? :D )

But awesome deal, thanks 2 degrees! :)
