Handsets to become available for 2Degrees, through Dick Smith and Warehouse Stationary:

Sub $100 (Both 2G)

- Nokia 1800 - Handsfree Speaker, FM Radio, Flashlight, Long Battery Life - $99.00

3G Handsets
- 2Degrees 1251 - 2MP Camera, Expandable memory, FM Radio, Bluetooth - $199.00
- LG GU285 - Bluetooth, Expandable Memory, Media Player, 1.3MP Camera - $249.00
- Nokia 5230 - Touch Screen, 2MP Camera, MP4 Player, A-GPS, Car Cradle - $399.00
- Acer E130 - Touch/Qwerty, Expandable Memory, Bluetooth, Android - $450 approx

The Acer E130 was incorrectly posted as a BE130, but that was only because of a misprint in the information that was supplied by 2degrees.

NonprayingMantis: the packs are great value, but didn't 2 Degrees promise less complexity when they first launched? all that stuff about Da Vinci code pricing.

I don't really see how it is less complicated to have different data pricing for different geographical areas (something no other mobile carrier does) and different expiry dates for different packs, 30, 60, 90 days (something no other carrier does).

Whilst the geographical pricing is understandable from a business point of view, doesn't this, along with the differing expiry dates, just make things a whole lot more complicated for customers to understand?

To work out which plan you want (or which prepay carrier you want to use) you now not only need to predict your usage for the next 3 months to know if the longer expiry is better for you, you also need to predict how often you are likely to be spending outside the main areas.

this extra complexity is something 2Degrees promised they wouldn't do isn't it?

Well said... I agree. Although the plans are basic, they aint articulated very well on the website.

2Degrees should bring out some high end smartphones like the Samsung Wave S8500 and Samsung I9000 Galaxy

I forgot to mention that the Nokia C1 is also coming....

which is also Dual SIM. But only one SIM at a time can be used.

I generally use more than 50MB a month, but nowhere near 500MB.
It would be nice to see a pack that caters for people who use in the region of 150 - 200MB per month.

You can buy two or three 50MB packs if you need. There are no limits on number of packs you can buy per month.

hi, will there be 3G data services if I go to Whakapapa? This is outside the main centres I know, will 2D be able to provide 3G services off Vodafone with the $6 50MB thing.

You get to use the Mobile Internet ($6 50MB packs), not the Mobile Broadband.

can you please clarify that? what's the diff between the two.
Is that 3G network or is it the slower one?

PS. B/c I am not in the main centre I know I cannot get the $20 plans and such like, I get the $6 thing... is that 3G?

When you're outside the 2degrees Broadband Zones - the centres of Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown - you are roaming on the Vodafone network. Whilst roaming on the Vodafone network, you get Vodafone's 2G or 3G service. If you're in Vodafone 3G coverage, you get Vodafone 3G service.

BUT, the broadband packs - 512MB/1GB, 2GB/3G and 10GB - are not available for use in a Vodafone roaming area. You may use the 50MB pack only.

You would use any remaining balance on the $6 data pack - provided it was within 30 days of initial purchase.

Easy as Pi.

This has been explained many times and is on the 2d website.

OK, assuming you have both the 1GB pack and the 50MB pack, it works like this.

In Broadband Zone: Charge 1GB pack till exhaustion, charge 50MB pack till exhaustion, charge prepay cash till exhaustion.

In National Zone [Vodafone roaming]: Charge 50MB pack till exhaustion, charge prepay cash till exhaustion.**

In other words, in Wellington we will first use the broadband pack as long as there's some left, and then start using the 50MB pack. Down at the snow we will ignore the broadband pack and only use the 50MB pack.

**Also remember you can LOCK the service so that it doesn't charge you 50c/MB while Vodafone roaming.
