To anyone else on Orcon with VSDL and Voice Over IP.  Is your telephone OK ?

We're finding many phone calls are just hopeless.  Orcon say it'll cost another $45 a month for a 'normal'
phone (which is what we had before changing to VDSL).

Wife is furious!!!  It's not every call and the caller can always hear OK, it's just this end where words are all broken
up and you can't inderstand anything. It can also just go silent for a few seconds at a time. Even at it's best audio
can be very low and muffled.

About half a dozen times this week (and much more if we had more calls, I'm sure) we've had to hang up or call back on a mobile. Its the pits and I don't think I should have to pay an extra $45/month to fix it. Orcon say this is what they have to pay Chorus, but what about the perfectly good phone we had before this ?

If I change to another ISP should I have to pay an early termination fee as I wouldn't be terminating if the phone worked properly. In fact would want to stay, as phone aside more than happy with Orcon and the internet performance.

OK, here we go. Indications are that this is resolved. Specific symptoms are:
Genius phone service (ADSL, VDSL or UFB)
Peak times (generally 7-10pm)
Genius customer sound very broken, other party reports good sound quality.

All the testing we have done (including that done by GZ'ers), indicates an almost complete absence of the poor sound quality previously occurring under the above circumstances.

Thanks to all, no further updates planned on this.
