We're having Orcon VDSL installed on Monday and already have a perfectly good dual-band router.  It appears that the Orcon Genius can be used in bridge mode as a VDSL modem, but could I just use a stand alone modem instead?

We already have an ATA device so are not concerned about the Genius phone line.

Here goes!  We will not provide support for anything other than the provided modem, and cannot warrant that it will work well or even at all.  Must have an NZ Telepermit of course.

If you have problems with your service and need to contact the helpdesk, please reconnect the provided modem first :)

With that out of the way, you'll need to configure the following:

G.994.1 auto sensing or VDSL
PPPoE
802.1Q tag traffic with VLAN 10 on the WAN interface
802.1P tag traffic with 0 on the WAN interface
Auth type is PAP
You need to extract the username and password out of the modem (there's a tut somewhere on Geekzone about this)

Good luck!
