Chorus had a job to install hybrid wiring, as I only have a ONTB box which was installed in the 13th last month.
Today they turned up to install hybrid wiring, but before they did, they asked for a filter. Then used a phone cord to plug into my NF4V modem and plugged the filter into my old jack point which has all jack points going now. Plus my phone cord is plugged into the filter as well.

My question is, if hybrid wiring was used will that allow me to turn off my modem and still use the phones, or do I have to leave the modem on regardless. What does hybrid wiring actually do. Prefer not to keep buying filters all the time.

Thank you.

NOTE:- The last chorus tech that came out to install the ONTB said the phone would only work if it was plugged in the modem only, or I think Slingshot told me. Not sure why he didn't know that using a filter would activate the jack points again.

Hybrid wiring wasn't installed at all, they just  used my old adsl filter or filter.

richms: Your phone sockets are now working, I dont understand the problems? Hybrid wiring is only needed if the ONT and router are going somewhere that there is not a phone outlet already installed. Otherwise they can just back feed it into one socket, cut it from the chorus network at the lead in and everything is fine.

They may be working - but the way that it has been connected is by no means a required 'standard' chorus install nor what can be considered an acceptable way to leave a customers service when the installers have been asked via the RSP/LFC to go back and wire it up correctly.

The chorus standard (and good practice) is to always install an ITP (Internal Test Point) and back feed the legacey wireing via the hybrid or a Cat6, even if it is to just back feed the nearest jackpoint ( if that is the only option due to the construction of the house (concrete floors, flat ceiling etc)) and not to use a DSL inline filter as a 3 way patch adaptor.

Leaving end customers wireing in such a state just adds to the sort of problems that people seek help here - poor dsl , noisey lines etc
