About 24 hours ago my broadband (VDSL) suddenly died. I've logged a ticket with the helpdesk but apart from getting me to perform a hard reset on the modem there's not much they can do (have referred to level 2 support whom I'm guessing don't work weekends).

DSL light is flashing on modem (White Orcon modem), no internet light.

No obvious physical damage to wiring at house or street end.

Checked with neighbours  and none of them are having any connectivity issues.

So my likely culprits are:

- something's gone wrong at Chorus end (is there any way to check on this as an end user, or is this restricted to ISPs?)

- something's gone wrong at Orcon

- something's broken in the modem (unlikely I'd say, it's still working fine as a LAN router)

- something's broken in our interior/exterior wiring that's not obvious

I should add that I've only been on VDSL for a couple of months - so there's a new master splitter, new jackpoint, and new modem involved.

Any other ideas? Or anything i can do to troubleshoot?

Cheers,

Jeremy

Was wiring (just outside the house) which had deteriorated with age. All better now :-)
