Have recently signed up to slinghsot and considering an upgrade to the suplied router-  would any decent router be compatible or are there requirements that not all have? Been looking mostly at Netgear/Asus mesh set ups, which i would be connecting directly to the ONT, and want to know that whatever I buy i will be good to go.

Yes quite aware of that, mainly want the additonal speed for concurrent streaming/gaming/downloading on several devices as the speed often drops significantly when theres a lot going on. Using ethernet isnt an option as there isnt a decent pathway for it that wont get underfoot.

Regardless if you use Mesh / Wireless you're always going to have this limitation. You really need to use Ethernet for high bandwidth devices else face the limitations of Wireless.

Getting a "gaming router" or "mesh router" won't fix this for you. Read this for an explanation: https://www.duckware.com/tech/wifi-in-the-us.html
