Is there any software that allows one to use my 2D sim card that I am using for data, to also send Sms so I can take advantage of the 500 free texts??  I have a Dell Latitude XT2.

Are you using a USB modem for that? Some of the software support SMS.

In this case you are using the Windows WWAN support. You will need a third party app, someone else might have a recommendation...

I see that I have a Dell wireless 5530 hspa mini-card modem configured on com4, and in com ports, I have a dell wireless 5530 hspa mini-card device management on com3.  Using the modem properties I can query the modem on com4.  But when I try to open it from software I get an error.

Presumably if I can communicate with com4, I can then send AT commands to send SMS .. if I know what telephone number to dial.

Assuming it behaves like a more or less normal GSM modem, you can find the info here.

iPad Pro 11" + iPhone 15 Pro Max + 2degrees 4tw!

Solved by purchasing a Huawei E586 wireless hotspot which has a web interface to allow me to send SMS

It's an integrated part of my laptop!  But I am no longer using it as I removed the sim and put it into the Huawei E586

Heh, they're removable... I have one in my work laptop, which used to be in my netbook. I'd like to get another to replace the one from my netbook.

Nevermind though, just checked eBay and they're about US$20 with free shipping.

They all can, but the 5530 doesn't support Text mode submission of SMS, only PDU mode.

Dell have some not bad software for the devices, but it clashes a little with Windows 7's WWAN support - I couldn't get it working last time I tried.
